She is best known for her role as Dr. Neela Rasgotra in the medical drama ER and as Jess in the film Bend It Like Beckham. Nagra has also had roles in the films My Name is Khan and The Black Prince.
Nagra began her acting career in the British soap opera EastEnders when still a teenager, where she was raised in Leicester, England. When she was older, she went to London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama to pursue a career in acting. The part of Dr. Neela Rasgotra on ER, which she portrayed for six seasons after graduation, was Nagra’s first acting job out of college.
As a result of her work, Nagra has won numerous honors, including the SAG and NAACP Image Awards. Her role in Bend It Like Beckham earned her a Golden Globe nomination as well. Nagra’s theatrical credits include Romeo and Juliet, My Fair Lady, and The Mistress Contract, in addition to her work in cinema and television.
