Lane Kiffin is an American football coach and analyst who is currently the head coach of the Florida Atlantic Owls. He is well-known for his stints as head coach of the Oakland Raiders, Tennessee Volunteers, and USC Trojans. Kiffin is also the son of legendary defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin. Aside from his coaching career, Kiffin has also been a part of the media as an analyst for ESPN and Fox Sports.
Early Life
Lane Kiffin was born on May 9, 1975 in Lincoln, Nebraska. His father, Monte Kiffin, was a successful defensive coordinator in the NFL and college football for many years. Kiffin attended Fresno State University where he served as a graduate assistant coach under his father. After his father was hired as the defensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Kiffin joined the Bucs in 1996 as an offensive assistant.
Professional Career
Kiffin was hired as head coach of the Oakland Raiders in 2007, becoming the youngest head coach in NFL history at the time. He was fired after a 20-28 record in his tenure with the Raiders.
Kiffin was then hired as head coach of the Tennessee Volunteers and led the team to a 7-6 record in his first season. He left the team after one season to accept the head coaching job at USC.
Kiffin was the head coach of the USC Trojans from 2010-2013. During his time at USC, Kiffin led the team to three bowl games and a conference championship. He was fired in 2013 after a 62-41 record in his four seasons as head coach.
Kiffin is currently the head coach of the Florida Atlantic Owls. He has led the team to two bowl game appearances in his first two seasons.
