He released his debut album, “Rhymes & Reasons” in 1969, and it was a major success, reaching the top 10 on the US country and pop charts. He was also an accomplished actor, appearing in films such as “Oh, God!” and “The Muppets Take Manhattan”. He died in a plane crash in 1997.
