    John Denver was born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. on December 31, 1943, in Roswell, New Mexico. He was raised in a musical family and began playing the guitar and writing songs at an early age. He attended Texas Tech University, but dropped out after two years to pursue a career in music. He moved to Los Angeles in the mid-1960s and signed a record deal with RCA Records. He released his debut album, “Rhymes & Reasons” in 1969, and it was a major success, reaching the top 10 on the US country and pop charts. He released several more albums throughout the 1970s and 1980s, and his songs were frequently played on the radio. He was also an accomplished actor, appearing in films such as “Oh, God!” and “The Muppets Take Manhattan”. He died in a plane crash in 1997.
