    Jerry Mathers was born on June 2nd, 1948 in Sioux City, Iowa. His parents, Margaret and Robert Mathers, were both teachers. He was the eldest of four children and was raised in a close-knit family. As a child, Mathers was very active in sports and studied piano and ballet. He was also an avid reader and enjoyed playing board games with his siblings.

    At the age of five, Mathers was cast in a television commercial for a local department store. This marked the beginning of his acting career and he went on to appear in a number of other commercials and television shows.
