Early Life of James Comey
James Comey was born on December 14, 1960 in Yonkers, New York. He was raised in Allendale, New Jersey, where he attended Northern Highlands Regional High School. He then graduated from the College of William & Mary in 1982 with a degree in Chemistry and Religion. He also earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Chicago Law School in 1985.
After graduating from law school, Comey joined the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York in 1987. He then served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia from 1996 to 2001.
