When you get a new computer, setting up the hardware and software you need to be productive can pose a challenge. Many scanner models, such as the ScanSnap series, are easy to connect and come with software that supports scanning, processing, saving or uploading captures to the cloud. Get a few helpful tips about how to scan a document and access scanned documents and images on your new Mac or PC.
Quality
The resolution in which you scan documents will determine the level of image quality. While it may be possible to quickly capture legible documents at low image quality settings, scanning at a higher resolution can ensure that text is clear and easy to read and that images are defined. If you plan to display scanned documents or images on a 150/1.23 portable monitor, it is a good idea to capture high quality scans.
Under automatic settings, image quality is based on the length of the shorter side of the document. When the shorter side of a document is longer than 115 millimeters, the image quality is Better. For documents with a shorter side that is 115 mm or shorter, the default image quality is Best.
Normal settings for color or grayscale are 150 dots per inch and 300 dpi for black and white. Better quality is 200 dpi or 400 dpi, Best quality is 300 dpi or 600 dpi and Excellent is 600 dpi or 1200 dpi. Keep in mind that resolution settings affect the speed of scanning.
Speed
The speed of a scanner depends on the hardware and quality settings. The ScanSnap iX600 is 33% faster than the preceding iX1500 model. The iX600 can capture double-sided scans at up to 40 pages per minute and scan 4 inch by 6 inch photos in under a second.
Intelligent scanner hardware and software features can also speed up scanning. You can work faster when you do not have to rescan documents or edit images.
Whether you save scans in the cloud or on physical storage, a scanner makes it possible to quickly transform paper documents or pictures into digital files that you can display on a portable monitor. Like next-generation scanners, these displays work with both Mac and PC systems.
Connectivity
The latest scanner models are compatible with Mac and PC. As you prepare to scan documents, you should make sure that the device hardware and software are compatible with your new computer. In some cases, you may need to update device drivers to the latest version for a scanner to function properly.
In addition to getting a scanner that works with your computer, you should also find out whether scanner software supports your preferred cloud service. You can set up ScanSnap Cloud software to automatically upload scans to the cloud.
Once you set up your scanner, you are ready to capture images and documents and access scans on your new computer. You can use a web browser or install dedicated software to share scans or upload files to the cloud.
