Sanders eventually franchised the restaurant and in 1952 he established the Kentucky Fried Chicken Corporation. The company quickly grew and he sold it in 1964 for $2 million.

He was also well-known for his distinctive southern drawl and his catchphrase, “It’s Finger Lickin’ Good!” He was an active philanthropist and he was awarded the Order of the British Empire in 1980 for his charitable work. Sanders passed away in 1980 at the age of 90.
