    Carly Simon was born on June 25, 1945, in New York City, New York. She is the daughter of Richard L. Simon, co-founder of Simon & Schuster, and Andrea Louise Heinemann Simon, a civil rights activist. She has two older sisters, Lucy and Joanna, and a younger brother, Peter. Growing up, Carly was surrounded by music and began writing songs at a young age. She attended Sarah Lawrence College, where she majored in music.

    Musical Career

    Simon began her career in the late 1960s, releasing her debut album, Carly Simon, in 1971. The album featured her hit single “You’re So Vain”, which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Throughout the 1970s, she released a string of successful albums and singles, including “Anticipation” (1971), “Mockingbird” (1974), and “Nobody Does It Better” (1977). In the 1980s, she scored several hits, including “Jesse” (1980), “Coming Around Again” (1986), and “Let the River Run” (1988). In 1983, she won an Academy Award for Best Original Song for “Let the River Run” from the film Working Girl.

    Simon continues to record and perform to this day. Her most recent album, This Kind of Love, was released in 2008. In addition to her singing career, she has written several books, including a memoir, Boys in the Trees (2015).
