Bill Self is a renowned American basketball coach and former player. He is the current head coach of the University of Kansas Jayhawks men’s basketball team. Early Life
Bill Self was born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma on December 27, 1962. He was raised in Edmond, Oklahoma and attended Edmond Memorial High School, where he was a three-sport athlete, playing football, basketball, and baseball. He was the quarterback of the football team and was named the state player of the year in basketball his senior year. After graduating high school, Self attended Oklahoma State University, where he played basketball for two years before transferring to the University of Oklahoma.
Professional Career
Self began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Oklahoma State in 1985. He went on to serve as the head coach at Oral Roberts University from 1993 to 1997 and the University of Tulsa from 1997 to 2000. In 2000, Self was hired as the head coach of the University of Illinois, where he led the team to the NCAA tournament in each of his three seasons. In 2003, Self was hired as the head coach of the University of Kansas. Since then, he has led the Jayhawks to 15 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances, including the 2008 NCAA championship. He has been named college basketball coach of the year three times and is widely regarded as one of the top coaches in the sport.

Self is married to Cindy Self, his high school sweetheart. The couple have two children, Lauren and Tyler. Self is an avid golfer and enjoys spending time with his family. He is also active in various charities and is a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame.
