William Sanford “Bill” Nye, famously known as Bill Nye the Science Guy, is an American science communicator, television presenter, and mechanical engineer. His mother was a codebreaker during the war and worked as an editor at the US State Department. He attended Sidwell Friends School, where he studied science and took classes on mechanical engineering.
Nye earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University in 1977. During his time there, he was a member of the sketch comedy group, “The Slope” and was also a cheerleader for the Cornell Big Red.
