Marcus Luttrell was born in Houston, Texas, on November 7, 1975. He attended Sam Houston State University, where he studied biology and joined the University’s ROTC program. In 1999, he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy and subsequently completed Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) training. He served as a member of SEAL Team 10 from 2001 to 2006, completing four deployments to Afghanistan.
