Kris Jenner And The ‘ozempic’ Controversy: Making Sense Of The Celebrity

    JamesBy JamesAugust 24, 2023

When Kris Jenner shared those curvaceous New Year pics on her handle this year, the photos went viral. There were a lot of discussions going on in the comment section about the transformation of the 67-year-old Kardashian matriarch. Much of those discussions hovered around her quick weight loss. While some complimented her body transformation, others mocked Kris Jenner’s Ozempic use. One Instagram user wrote,” Of course she did. Everything about that family is fake.” There were a series of similar comments accusing Kris Jenner of gaining a slender body with the help of drugs.

These accusations angered Kris and she has vehemently denied taking the anti-diabetic drug for getting that slender waist. She asked people to respect her hard work saying she goes to the gym regularly. She maintains that her losing weight is because of her persistent hard work. She has handled questions like ‘Is Kris Jenner a good mom?’ by projecting herself as a good role model.

    What is Ozempic?

Ozempic is a drug that has shown promise in the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Semaglutide is its generic name. It is injected subcutaneously once a week. Ozempic has a similar action as GLP-1. The latter is a naturally occurring hormone responsible for maintaining normal blood sugar levels. As diabetic patients lose the ability to form insulin, Ozempin mimics the GLP-1 and stimulates the release of insulin. It reduces the production of glucose in the liver.

Why has Ozempic become the center of controversy?

The controversy around the drug first came to the fore when celebrities like Elon Musk and Kyle Richards of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills were accused of taking Ozempic for weight loss. While Elon has publicly admitted the use of Ozempic but others including Richards and Jenner have maintained a strictly no-use policy.

The controversy surrounding Kris Jenner’s weight loss is not just about whether or not she is taking Ozempic. The internet is full of questions like ‘Is Kris Jenner a good mom?’ over the antics of the Kardashian family members. However, in the case of Ozempic, it is also about the potential for celebrities to influence people’s perceptions of weight loss. When celebrities lose weight dramatically, it sends the message that weight loss is easy and can be achieved by everyone. It’s a tacit approval for adopting shortcut methods for weight loss when there’s none in reality.  It can be harmful too as it’s not free of side effects. Particularly vulnerable are those who are already suffering from an eating disorder.

Did Kris Jenner use Ozempic to reduce weight?

Kris has had to face the allegations of using Ozempic for quite some time now. So far she has consistently refused the allegations but fans aren’t convinced. She has repeatedly said that her slender waist is the result of sweating it out in the gym. While it may be possible that her weight loss is a result of genuine physical effort but something remains amiss. There are several claims on different websites using her example to promote Ozempoic. It would be better if she put this issue to rest by being more open about it. Her honest admission would save people from buying products without proper checks.

Who are some other famous people who have reportedly used Ozempic?

The list of celebrities who are rumored to have taken Ozempic is quite long. Amy Schumer, Chelsea Handler, Mindy Kaling, Elon Musk, and Sharon Osborne among others have been accused of taking this drug. However, only a few like Musk have been open about it.

    Is Ozempic safe?

As far as Ozempic is concerned, it’s prudent to remember that it’s a prescription drug. It shouldn’t be taken without seeing a doctor first. There are several side effects of Ozempic. This includes:

    • nausea,
    • vomiting,
    • diarrhea,
    • constipation, and
    • headache

Ozempic’s primary use is against type-2 diabetes. Weight loss is only a secondary effect of the drug. It is much better to follow traditional methods to lose weight rather than go for experimental drugs. Ozempic may be suitable for some people but not a one-stop solution for sure.

    Conclusion

The Kris Jenner Ozempic case has brought the issue of celebrities endorsing weight loss drugs to the fore. Although many including Kris have denied taking the anti-diabetic drug, it has nonetheless prompted other individuals to imitate these celebrities. Seeing their favorite celebrities using this drug, many individuals have begun using it too, thoughtlessly at times. With too many people hoarding Ozempic and creating a shortage for those who actually need it, time has come to address this issue. It should be repeatedly mentioned that Ozempic is meant to treat diabetes, not weight problems. If you are considering weight loss, better consult your doctor.

This whole controversy around Kris Jenner’s alleged Ozempic use has taught us another valuable lesson. It is this – just because a celebrity has lost weight does not mean that her weight loss journey is healthy or sustainable. It’s important not to get swayed by a celebrity’s drastic physical transformation. If you want to get a slender waist, it is always good to get it the traditional way – through exercise and diet – rather than depending on some magical drug.
