Mike Huckabee was born on August 24, 1955, in Hope, Arkansas. He is the son of Dorsey Wiles Huckabee and Mae Elder. Huckabee was raised in a Southern Baptist family and graduated from Hope High School in 1973. In 1975, he graduated from Ouachita Baptist University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion. Huckabee went on to obtain a Master of Arts degree in Speech Communication from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1979.
In 1982, Huckabee was elected to the Arkansas House of Representatives, where he served until 1992. In 1992, he was elected Lieutenant Governor of Arkansas, a post he held until 1996. In 1996, Huckabee was elected Governor of Arkansas. He served as governor until 2007.
